I hope my kids love Texas
God knows it took me a while
I had to get away to see
Now I’m full of Texas Pride
Perhaps my son or daughter
May need some time abroad
I’d never discourage such adventures
But think about this before you do
When you go to the grocery store
And can’t find Rio Red Grapefruit,
And no one knows what Habaneros are
Then you’ll know
When you discover the place your in
Doesn’t have an ocean view, or mountains
Wine country, or cotton fields,
Long horn cattle, or Aggie Land
When you find out that people put
Bar-B-Q sauce on fried chicken,
French dressing on tacos
And steak sauce on brisket
When you wish you could go
Fishing, but can’t find a public lake
Hunting, but can’t own a gun
Camping, but can’t find the woods
When you find yourself
Saying “Y’all” and getting laughed at
“Yes Ma’am” and being scorned
“Yes Sir” and getting walked on
Should you ever find yourself surrounded
By folks who’d rather step on your face
Than shake your hand and say “Howdy”
Then you’ll know where you belong
